| What are Essential Learnings? Essential Learnings are defined as the knowledge and skills that are critical in a grade level or course. These Learnings comprise about 80% of the curriculum. The number of Learnings (6-12 per semester or 12-24 per year) is arbitrary. The key is knowing what a typical student can practice and learn in the time available. Practice over time is necessary for students to have the concept or skill in long term memory at the application level. Essential Learnings are coded to the Sunshine State Standards, Performance Objectives or FARR standards but are specific for a grade or course. |
